Malè is one of the main municipalities of Trentino Alto Adige and the capital of the Val di Sole. It is located between the Brenta Dolomites – Unesco World Heritage Site -, Madonna di Campiglio and the Stelvio National Park. At the confluence of the Rabbies and Noce rivers.
Malè is the heart of Val di Sole, an ideal location for summer and inland holidays, located a few kilometers from the Stelvio National Park, the Adamello Brenta Natural Park and the spa resorts of Pejo and Rabbi.
In addition, regular connections to and from the ski slopes of the nearby ski areas depart from Malè.
What to see in Malè
Parish Church of Santa Maria Assunta.
Definitely built before 1178, the church was rebuilt between 1491 and 1497, based on a project by Adamo da Laino. Over the following centuries, further restoration works were then carried out, the interiors, the roof, the flooring, the sacristy. In 1971 a fire damaged the building, but it was soon restored, with great attention and respect for the original forms.
Solandra Museum of Civilization.
Ethnographic museum housed in the locality of the former magistrate’s court. The museum was inaugurated in 1979 and houses interesting collections of tools that tell the story and work in the Valley, the reconstruction of an old kitchen and a bedroom.
Among the objects and tools on display, the collections dedicated to the work of the shoemaker, the processing of cereals, the processing of copper, the processing of iron, spinning and weaving, agriculture and livestock, the transformation of milk, woodworking, turpentine extraction. The section dedicated to peasant life is also very interesting.
The territory has been inhabited since Roman times, a voty plaque found during some archaeological excavations dates back to the 2nd century.
The Pieve di Santa Maria Assunta was already named in 1178.
The “Carta di Regola” through which the city governed itself following the rules imposed by this sort of municipal statute was in force in the city until the Napoleonic age.
